Australia and India have only met once in the World Cup final, but thirteen times overall.
Australia and India will square off in the 2023 World Cup final. For India in particular, the tournament has thus come full circle, and they may feel the same way in other respects as well. Australia and India had played their first match in Chennai against each other. India had defeated them by six wickets at that point, despite losing three wickets in the first two overs.
Furthermore, Australia will play India in a World Cup final for the second time. The first was in 2003, and it was India’s first final of the century. But neither they nor almost any other team in the competition could compete with Ricky Ponting’s world-beating squad. This time, however, things are very different, with India appearing to be just as strong in the tournament as the Australians were in the past and the latter nearly emerging victorious after dropping their opening two games.
